BioBlend Lubricants’ Off The Charts Lubricity

BioBlend Lubricants’ Off The Charts Lubricity featured image

The lubricity of our renewable, and readily biodgradable eSynTM lubricants is greater than their petroleum counterparts. In a previous article, we explored the importance of Viscosity Index (V.I.) and how a high V.I. helps our lubricants remain stable and provide great performance at high temperatures. If you combine the power of that characteristic with our incredible lubricity you have a lubricant that will perform and protect your equipment in even the most challenging situations.

What is Lubricity?

Lubricity, often referred to as “film strength” is the measure of reduction in friction and wear by a lubricant. In other words it is a lubricant’s capacity to reduce friction. It is the ability of a lubricant to actually do its intended job, lubricate.

The natural esters that are used in BioBlend’s high-performance lubricants and industrial products provide high lubricity as a function of their natural properties. When comparing the film strength of BioBlend’s products to those of their petroleum-based counterparts you will notice that BioBlend lubricants typically outperform them, which leads to better performance and protection outcomes for our customers.

Why is Lubricity Important?

Lubricity is important because any time two surfaces (think metal on metal for many applications) rub against each other there is friction (heat) produced. No matter how smooth the surfaces appear to the naked eye, at a microscopic level they are very rough. If your lubricant has low lubricity (or weak film strength), it will not be able to manage the friction caused by these rough surfaces moving across each other. If there is excess friction, this increased heat can shorten a low lubricity lubricant’s useful life and have a negative impact on equipment performance. So low lubricity can lead to more product usage over time and potentially replacement or repair of equipment and parts, which can be costly.

It is recommended to have a lube analysis program in place. There are many things that can cause equipment failures and if you are not effectively monitoring your lubricants, you likely won’t know you have an issue until irreversible and costly damage has been done. Plus, if done properly, an analysis program can help you extend your drain intervals and save you money every year.
